Communication, Politics and International Relations
Communication is one of the most relevant tools in political strategies and international relations. Using Communication as lobbyists or as media operators to represent a specific person or group of people, a government, political party, or even an organization. And both ways, either directly using interpersonal communications skills or indirectly using digital communication skills.
Strategy, implementation of complete communication devices, work image of candidates, public perception of social issues, politics, lobbying, party financing.
In 20 years, business management international, political communication, women’s image management, and politicians and institutions have become trades in their own right.
These trades in the political sphere require know-how that goes from marketing, from communication strategy to lobbying, through crisis communication, up to the control of the tools of opinion, the media classics, and the web. Practical, theoretical aspects to putting into practice on real cases.

Here are two points to discuss :
▪️ Lobbyists or Representors :
Professionals in public relations are focused on managing the public image of a person or organization. Therefore, they must possess excellent oral and written communications skills and the theories of persuasion.
Communications serves as the basis for careers in government/politics, as professionals in this field must be able to articulate issues that challenge our systems of government and develop a rapport with the public, as :
- Lobbyists :
Lobbyists represent a specific person or group of people within a government. Their work involves attempting to effect change by influencing people with policy-making authority.
- Diplomats & Ambassadors :
An ambassador is an official envoy, especially a high-ranking diplomat who represents a state and is usually accredited to another sovereign state or to an international organization as the resident representative of their own government or sovereign or appointed for a special and often temporary diplomatic assignment
- Legislative Assistants :
A legislative assistant is a legislative staffer who works for a legislator by monitoring pending legislation, conducting research, drafting legislation, giving advice and counsel, and making recommendations.
- Cultural Advisors & Liaisons :
who work in the government, healthcare, and education sectors, among others, are responsible for evaluating the cultural needs of individuals or groups and providing the necessary support. For example, cultural advisors in educational institutions offer academic and career guidance to students.
- Campaign Directors :
Campaign directors are responsible for developing an overall strategic plan for an integrated campaign model. Campaign directors oversee the overall mission of the organization, including the work of campaign professionals and volunteers.
- Research Specialists :
A research fellow is an academic research position at a government or a similar research institution, usually for academic staff or faculty members. A research fellow may act either as an independent investigator or under the supervision of a principal investigator.
- Translators & Interpreters :
Translators & interpreters aid communication by converting one language to another. Translators work with written communications, while interpreters work with spoken communications, but both must be experts in the art of communication.
So, in conclusion, the most important role in international relations is to be professionals in international relations and negotiations understand that globalization, interacting across multiple cultures, relies on effective and efficient communications.
▪️ Media Operators : Electronic Media & Broadcasting :
By far, the most important qualifications communications professionals can possess are excellent oral and written communications skills, and the capacity to think critically and strategically.
In mass media research and online media research, including persuasion and propaganda. The effort of the strategist is that of getting a precise decoding, avoiding “message reactance”, that is, message refusal.
Holistic approaches are used by communication campaign leaders and communication strategists in order to examine all the options, “actors” and channels that can generate change in the semiotic landscape, that is, change in perceptions, change in credibility, change in the “memetic background”, change in the image of movements, of candidates, players and managers as perceived by key influencers that can have a role in generating the desired “end-state”.
The modern political communication field is highly influenced by the framework and practices of “information operations” doctrines that derive their nature from strategic and military studies. According to this view, what is really relevant is the concept of acting on the Information Environment. The information environment is the aggregate of individuals, organizations, and systems that collect, process, disseminate, or act on information. This environment consists of three interrelated dimensions, which continuously interact with individuals, organizations, and systems. These dimensions are known as physical, informational, and cognitive.
So, international relations (IR) or international affairs (IA), commonly also referred to as international studies (IS), global studies (GS), or global affairs (GA), is the study of interconnections of politics, economics, and law on a global level.
In all cases, the field studies relationships between political entities such as sovereign states, inter-governmental organizations (IGOs), international non-governmental organizations (INGOs), other non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and multinational corporations (MNCs), and the wider world-systems produced by this interaction. International relations is an academic and a public policy field, and so can be positive and normative because it analyses and formulates the foreign policy of a given state.
International relations draws from the fields of communication studies, politics, economics, international law, history, demography, geography, sociology, anthropology, criminology, psychology, and gender studies. The scope of international relations encompasses issues such as globalization, diplomatic relations, state sovereignty, international security, ecological sustainability, nuclear proliferation, nationalism, economic development, global finance, terrorism, and human rights.
